Kelly Osbourne has revealed she relapsed into drinking and could barely function after her father Ozzy’s death last summer.
The 41-year-old television personality told the “We Need to Talk” podcast Tuesday that she was “a shell of myself” following the Black Sabbath singer’s passing. Kelly, who spoke with host Paul C. Brunson, said she hit what she called “ground zero” in her grief.
“I lost my mind. I was a shell of myself,” she said. “I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t do anything.”
“I was just empty, broken in every way a human being could possibly be broken, and completely unable to take care of myself.”
The former “Fashion Police” co-host admitted she began drinking again because she “couldn’t handle” the loss. She shared that she is now eight months sober and has deliberately tightened her inner circle.
“I closed my circle because I lost a lot of friends,” she explained. “People don’t like sadness, and they expected me to be over it.”
She continued, “And I will never be over it. I will never, ever be over it.”
Kelly also recounted her final conversation with her father, which happened just three days before he died at age 76 on July 22.
“He sat me down and said, ‘Tots, I need you to know something. No matter what happens in this life, you can live the rest of your life knowing that there was one man on this planet [who] truly loved you, [who] truly loved you for every single thing you are. And that man is me,'” she recalled.
Kelly said she began crying and begged him not to “talk like this.” He responded, “You know, I’m not going to be here forever, and I know you struggle with people … believing that you are loved, but I love you more than anyone.”
Ozzy’s cause of death was later revealed to be a heart attack. A statement at the time confirmed that Kelly and her siblings Aimee and Jack — whom Ozzy shared with his second wife, Sharon Osbourne — were by his side when he died. Son Louis, from Ozzy’s first marriage to Thelma Riley, was also said to have been present. Ozzy additionally shared daughter Jessica with Riley and adopted her son, Elliot Kingsley.
In the immediate aftermath, Kelly broke her silence on Instagram Stories, writing, “I feel unhappy. I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had 💔.” The message appeared to reference “Changes,” the 1972 Black Sabbath ballad Ozzy co-wrote and performed.
Kelly has also been open about the physical toll of her grief. She previously addressed comments accusing her of using Ozempic for weight loss, telling critics to “f–k off.” She later revealed she wore wigs to conceal how her appearance had deteriorated, saying she “looked like the f–king Crypt Keeper.”
The “Osbournes” alum said she now has “the most incredible people around me” as she continues her recovery.
