10 Little Things To Do When You’re Feeling Too Down To Do Anything

We all feel a little down sometimes. Often, there doesn’t seem to be any particular reason for feeling blue and unmotivated. So what do you do when you don’t feel like doing anything?

#1. Take a shower.

Even if you plan to stay in all day long and not see a soul, take a shower. It takes the most effort to hop in to the shower but once you do, you’ll feel immediate results. It will wake you up and you’ll be feeling much fresher (and cleaner too).

#2. Brush and floss your teeth.

After you’ve taken your shower, give your teeth a good brushing with a floss finish. It’s a small task but it feels so good and you can check ‘taking care of your health’ off the daily list of things to do.

#3. Do something small on your list.

Most of us have a list of small things we’ve procrastinated on for quite some time. Doing the smallest task like sewing a button back on a shirt will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something. It might make you want to do more but if not, at least you can wear your shirt again.

#4. Drink water.

Drinking water is easy right? It’s also really beneficial for your health so keep a glass beside you all day and take sips often. It gives you energy and prevents you from boredom eating.

#5. Do some floor exercises.

The last thing you want to do is exercise but it might be just the thing you need the most. Keep it simple and do exercises that involve sitting or laying on the floor. Even the smallest of exercises release chemicals in the brain that make you feel good. Yoga stretches or core exercises are going to make you feel good with minimal effort.

#6. Make your bed.

Making your bed takes a few minutes but it’s productive and you’ll feel relieved when it’s done. An unmade bed is a huge visual reminder that you’re having an unproductive day. Do it and consider it your housework for the day.

#7. Put on some nice clothes.

Take the sweatpants off even if you don’t plan to go anywhere. Play dress up and put on clothes that make you feel good. Take a look in the mirror so your brain recognizes the sweatpants have been replaced with clothes that make you look great. It’s an instant confidence booster.

#8. Wash the dishes.

A pile of dirty dishes in the sink is a reflection of your mood. It’s possible that if you wash up the dishes, your mood will follow suit. It’s worth a try.

#9. Cook a real meal.

If you have the luxury to have a “do nothing” day, you have time to make a real meal for yourself. Make a meal that you love to eat. The process is good to get you out of the funk and the food will ensure you have more energy for tomorrow.

#10. Write out your thoughts by hand.

When you hand write, you stimulate your brain to focus on the moment that you’re in so make yourself comfortable and write whatever comes into your mind. Put those thoughts out on paper so they stop spinning around in your head. Those thoughts might be the very thing holding you down.
