Kim Kardashian has revealed how Kris Jenner came to own the vintage Elizabeth Taylor cape that appeared in both the “All’s Fair” Season 2 trailer and on the red carpet in Rome.
The reality star, 46, broke down the provenance on her Instagram Stories after Jenner, 70, debuted the piece at the Hulu legal drama’s premiere Saturday. Kardashian explained that her mother purchased the garment at auction and later lent it to her for the show.

“Fun fact about the cape my mom is wearing. It belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, and my mom now owns it and graciously let me wear it in All’s Fair,” Kardashian wrote on Instagram Stories.
She traced the garment’s path from Hollywood royalty to her own onscreen wardrobe. “After Ryan Murphy heard the story of Elizabeth Taylor wearing it to Grace Kelly’s Scorpion Ball, naturally, he made sure to write an episode about Allura Grant throwing her own Scorpion Ball,” she continued on Instagram Stories, referencing her character. “I’m the luckiest girl to have borrowed it from my mom.”

The cape carries substantial auction history. It last sold publicly at Christie’s in 2011 as part of Taylor’s personal collection, fetching $74,500, according to a press release sent to the outlet Style. Jenner acquired it afterward.

Made by Roman couture house Tiziani, the cape features an ivory silk lining and embroidered diamanté scorpions across its velvet surface. Taylor first wore it to Princess Grace’s 40th birthday party in Monaco in 1969, a Scorpio-themed celebration matching the royal’s zodiac sign.

The original styling was spectacular even by Hollywood standards. Taylor paired the custom piece with the 69.42-carat Taylor-Burton Diamond, a gift from then-husband Richard Burton that same year.
For her Rome appearance, Jenner opted for white gloves extending from long white cuffs, a diamond lariat necklace with dozens of pear-shaped stones, and diamond shooting star earrings.

Kardashian’s own turn in the cape came with comparable bling. She wore more than $2.7 million in Leviev diamonds for the trailer appearance, which fans saw earlier this month before the full episode context was revealed.

The garment’s screen time extends beyond Kardashian. Sarah Paulson’s character, Carrington Lane, also gets a spin in the archival piece during the season.

The zodiac connection layers neatly onto the family itself. Jenner turns 71 on Nov. 5, making her a Scorpio like Princess Grace and, by the cape’s design motif, thematically linked to the piece she now owns.
“All’s Fair” returns for its second season on Nov. 4.
