Saturday, June 13, 2026, saw the New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 to claim the NBA championship and end a 53-year title drought.
The victory prompted celebrations among supporters in New York and elsewhere, including one Knicks fan in Canoga Park, Los Angeles.
Marie Marseille, a New York native who now lives in Canoga Park and works as a nurse, said she was at home with her pet dog Jamison, a Golden Saint Berdoodle, when Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived at the property after a call about a possible disturbance.

According to FOX 11 LA, police were called after someone reported hearing raised voices and feared a domestic dispute might be happening.
Marseille said she was alone in the home with Jamison and told officers that no one else was inside.
She said officers then asked her to “put the dog away” and that she agreed. Before she could do that, however, Jamison, who was wearing a Knicks jersey, got outside and moved toward one of the officers.
Marseille told FOX 11 the “next thing” she knew, Jamison was “lying on the ground”. He had been shot dead.
Footage shared online captures the moments after the shooting, showing Marseille crouched over her dog in distress.
“What is the purpose of this?” one neighbor can be heard questioning in the video.
“But Jamison wasn’t baring teeth, he wasn’t growling, he wasn’t aggressive, he wasn’t barking,” Marseille argued.
“He was just moving toward the officer.”
In a preliminary report, the LAPD said officers had responded to reports of a “screaming woman”.

A spokesperson for the department said: “The resident closed her door momentarily. She re-opened the door, and the dog exited the apartment.
“Once outside of the apartment, the dog charged at one of the officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.”
Marseille questioned: “He’s my baby. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I don’t get it.”
Jamison died at the scene. The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services later attended and took custody of the dog.
The incident has sparked anger online, with the video of Marseille grieving over Jamison drawing millions of views. LAPD has said the shooting is under investigation.
The LAPD has been approached for additional comment.
