Bug Hall has turned to GoFundMe for help as his sixth child arrives within weeks.
The former child actor, 41, who played Alfalfa in the 1994 “Little Rascals” film, launched the fundraiser after six years of living off-grid with his wife Jill and their five children. Hall stepped away from Hollywood entirely in 2020, embracing what he has called a strict vow of poverty on an 80-acre plot.
Hall’s GoFundMe campaign had already raised $9,970 from 130 donors by the time coverage emerged, nearly five times his $2,000 target. The plea marks a significant shift for the actor, who had previously given away his entire savings and most material possessions in pursuit of radical Catholic faith-based living.
“It’s now six years since I self-cancelled, and I have avoided doing one of these in all that time,” he wrote on the fundraising platform.
“I always said this was my choice, and so I didn’t want to offload the glorious burden of it unless there was no other choice. Well here we are.”
The family relocated to their new land faster than anticipated, but Hall explained they remain short on critical supplies and behind on basic bills. He cited specific needs including phone service, propane for their camper, and an unexpected electric hookup service fee.
“We’ve made it onto the new land in record time, but I’m a few materials short of having things working right, and I’ve fallen a little behind on the few bills we have,” he continued on GoFundMe.

The actor noted that despite the hardships, the family finds joy in their circumstances. “We’re all overjoyed to be where we are, and we’re even enjoying roughing it,” he wrote, before pivoting to the pressing reality of their expanding family. “But baby six is less than a month away, and I really need some help getting the last few things buttoned up beforehand.”

Hall outlined a concrete plan for the immediate future. “My hope is to finalize everything here over the next two weeks so I can take some work until the baby arrives,” he shared.
His appeal extended beyond monetary contributions. “Times are hard for everyone, and I’m no more deserving than anyone else,” he added, “but I ask in your charity that you help where you can, whether monetarily, by sharing this, or by prayer and sacrifice for the Hall-Barnetts of the Holy Cross.”
Before his retreat from public life, Hall built a career spanning decades. After breaking through as Alfalfa in the 1994 “Little Rascals” remake, he appeared in “The Big Green,” “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves,” and Disney’s animated “Hercules” during his youth. His adult acting credits included roles on “Charmed,” “Cold Case,” and “CSI: Miami.”
Hall has publicly identified himself as a radical Catholic extremist, stating that his Hollywood career no longer aligned with his religious convictions. The decision to abandon the entertainment industry and distribute his wealth represented a dramatic transformation from his early fame.

The fundraising push comes shortly after Hall encountered legal trouble in Ohio. In April, he was charged with failing to appear in court for a December hearing connected to an October traffic citation for lacking liability insurance. The charge produced a police mugshot that circulated publicly just months before his current financial appeal.
