A married couple and their employee were arrested for allegedly running a brothel out of a Cupertino day spa that authorities say serviced roughly 30 men daily.
Lin Wang, 46, and Xian Wang, 48, the owners of Humming Bird Day Spa on the 10000 block of S. De Anza Blvd, were taken into custody on September 10 alongside managing employee Rui Wang, 42, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office. The trio now face multiple felonies including pimping, pandering, and tax fraud.
The operation had been running since 2022 and generated approximately $700,000 annually, officials said. Investigators determined the business was marketed specifically to male customers, with evidence showing a high volume of men entering the establishment for brief visits each day.
“Evidence shows that the business, marketed to male customers, had a high volume of men entering the establishment over a short period of time each day,” the DA’s office said in a press release.
The investigation began in March after locals reported suspected illegal sexual activity at the location. During the months-long probe, authorities said they uncovered evidence that the three suspects were collecting, concealing, and integrating illicit funds to sustain the business, cover personal expenses, and pay mortgages.
“Profits were funneled through mortgage payments to properties in San Jose and Chino Hills, and through investments,” the press release stated.
The financial scheme allegedly extended beyond the spa itself. Authorities said the married couple and their employee engaged in long-term pimping and pandering operations while laundering money through real estate and investments.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen issued a strong condemnation of the operation.
“There is no room in our neighborhoods for working brothels,” Rosen said. “There is no room in Santa Clara County for the criminal exploitation of human beings.”
Two women present during the raid received services from Community Solutions, a local support organization. The three defendants were scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
The case marks the second major brothel bust in the area within roughly a year. In 2024, the same district attorney’s office announced the dismantling of a San Jose family-run network of 10 brothels that allegedly brought in about $1 million annually and involved trafficking dozens of women.
“The trafficking of human beings has no place in our community, or any other,” Rosen said at the time of that earlier bust. “Modern slavery is morally and legally wrong and will be met with no toleration and – as you can see by the agencies cooperating in this operation – the strictest legal accountability.”
The earlier operation and the current spa case both fall under the jurisdiction of the DA’s Human Trafficking Task Force, which has intensified efforts against commercial sexual exploitation in Santa Clara County.
The three defendants in the Humming Bird Day Spa case remain in custody pending their court appearance.
