One week after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, the royal family is still going above and beyond to support the British people as they navigate this time of bereavement.
The public can observe the Queen’s casket at Westminster Hall in London while she is lying in state until her burial on Monday.
The royal family attended a parade and brief funeral ceremony on Wednesday when Harry and Meghan’s public expression of affection sparked an unexpected discussion.
The pair has received accolades for having the guts to hold hands throughout the parade and display affection.
One person wrote, “Meghan & harry have such a special & amazing bond that no one can ever take away from them.”
Another person said, “Meghan and Harry love each other.
Others harshly criticized the world’s most innocent gesture, saying it was unsuitable for a gathering intended to honor the Queen.
One of these complaints said, “They’re part of the procession.”
Another indignant British wrote, “No class,” adding:
“I see Meghan still couldn’t manage the whole service without holding on to Harry.”
Some people believed that Harry and Meghan’s holding hands during the service was against the law, which is untrue.
“While there are no formal ‘rules’ against PDA, we don’t often see it from the royals because usually when we see them they are on the job,” royal expert Shannon Felton Spence explained.
“They are presenting their most professional appearance. When we see William and Catherine out, they are husband and wife colleagues.”
Spence also out that Prince William and Kate Middleton have frequently been photographed holding hands in public, but usually in less formal situations.
“It does happen, but usually always setting appropriate or a less formal event (like if they are playing a sport),” she said.
“That’s why it’s so striking that Harry and Meghan have always been so overtly affectionate with each other,” Spence noted.
“It’s not that it’s unusual for a husband and wife, it’s that we’re just not used to seeing it from the royals while they are on the job.”
Sadly, this is not the first time that Meghan has found herself involved in a ridiculous scandal while attending a memorial service for her grandmother-in-law and carrying out her royal duties.
The media would not have accepted this kind of rudeness if it had been directed at any other royal family member earlier this week when a woman refused to shake Meghan’s hand.
The Duchess of Sussex was wearing a hidden microphone while meeting the people, according to online nutjobs who quickly examined pictures of her.
This was untrue, of course, but it was a strong reminder that a certain group of people could readily accept the silliest hypothesis possible if it provided them with a reason to belittle Meghan.
In addition, Mike and Zara Tindall, Princess Anne’s daughter, held hands during the mourning service.
But something tells us that the British public and tabloid media won’t criticize them.
