Olivia Wilde Reveals Jason Sudeikis’ Brutal Comment Before Their ‘Bumpy’ Breakup

Olivia Wilde has shared new details about the breakup that ended her engagement to Jason Sudeikis after nearly a decade together.

The former couple share two children, Otis and Daisy, and were one of Hollywood’s most high-profile pairs before news of their split emerged in late 2020. Wilde later said the relationship had already been under strain for some time before the separation became public.

Speaking with Alex Cooper on a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Wilde said a painful exchange around her 36th birthday in March 2020 became a turning point.

“Jason and I had been having a rough time for a while. We had a real bumpy ride,” she said.

She explained that after the birthday celebration, the two had a conversation in the car on the way home, where she asked whether he had gotten her a gift.

“He said, ‘What would I get you, Olivia? I don’t know you,’” she recalled.

Wilde said she felt there was truth in that remark, admitting that they no longer really knew one another. According to her, that realization made it clear their long relationship had run its course.

“It was f*****g tough,” she said. “It brought us to the place of, ‘OK, this is done, we’re gonna end this.'”

Because the breakup happened during the COVID lockdown period, they remained under the same roof for some time while raising their children. Wilde said they continued to work well together as parents even after their romantic relationship ended.

She is currently promoting her latest film, The Invite, a comedy she directed that premiered at Sundance earlier this year and is due for release in late June 2026.

Following the split, Wilde was linked to her Don’t Worry Darling co-star Harry Styles. The two dated privately for about two years before ending their relationship, and Wilde has since largely kept her personal life out of the spotlight.

In her conversation with Cooper, Wilde also addressed the public reaction to the age gap between her and Styles, saying it clearly struck a nerve with many people.

“I think it also had a lot to do with the kind of parasocial relationship people have with him which is a burden that is very weighty and not something I envy. He carries it with grace,” she said.

Despite the attention surrounding them, Wilde spoke warmly about Styles and described their time together as a very positive chapter, calling it the pair’s ‘loveliest relationship’.

Styles has since been linked with Zoë Kravitz in recent months, while Wilde has been reported to have been seen with Caspar Jopling, the former husband of singer Ellie Goulding.
