Jayme Leagh Franklin, the political commentator who became the focus of a viral conspiracy theory about Donald Trump, has now given a blunt response to the claim that she was secretly waking him up with a hidden device.
Franklin was standing behind the president during an Oval Office event on August 10 when cameras caught Trump with his eyes closed and his head tilted as someone else spoke. Social media users zeroed in on another detail: Franklin had a hand resting across her stomach, and when she appeared to move it, Trump opened his eyes and straightened up seconds later.
That timing was enough to set off a wave of jokes and speculation online, with some users insisting she had some kind of concealed button that could jolt the president awake.

One of the most widely shared posts came from writer Tim Brannigan, who wrote, “Claims she has a button fitted on her belly, and when she gets the nod that he’s asleep she moves her hand and presses a button that wakes him. Franklin later addressed the rumor herself and revealed there was a far less dramatic explanation. Reposting the claim alongside laughing and crying emojis, she wrote, “I’m just pregnant you weirdos.”

Others kept the joke going anyway. Replying under Brannigan’s post, one X user commented, “Bro’s getting rebooted like a malfunctioning laptop.”
In reality, Franklin’s pregnancy was already public. During the same Oval Office event, she had told Trump, “I’m a mom. I have a three-and-a-half-year-old and another one on the way.”
Franklin is a former Trump administration staffer and the founder and CEO of the conservative media and lifestyle company The Conservateur. Before that, she worked as a coalitions coordinator for Trump’s 2020 campaign, later served as director of correspondence in his first administration, and has also held roles at Fox News and in the US Senate.

She had been brought into the Oval Office to discuss parental choice on vaccines during an event tied to Trump’s executive order on childhood vaccination policy. The order calls for reducing the number of federally recommended childhood vaccines from 17 to 11 and breaking up the MMR shot, which currently immunizes against measles, mumps and rubella in a single injection, into three separate doses given at separate visits.
Speaking at the event, Franklin said, “I’m not anti-vaccine at all. I’m pro-vaccine. But we want to be able to have the freedom to space it out and choose which one works for our child.” She added, “We don’t believe that there’s a one-size-fits-all solution for every child.”
The executive order aligns with the policy direction of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime vaccine skeptic. The White House has also rejected the idea that Trump had dozed off during the appearance. Still, the footage fed more online commentary about moments when the 80-year-old appears to close his eyes in public, along with fresh jokes comparing him to his old “Sleepy Joe” taunt for Joe Biden.
