Country star admits she was drunk at a concert and shares her regret

Carly Pearce has owned up to a performance she would rather forget.

The Grammy-winning country singer, 36, admitted during Entertainment Tonight’s “Sip or Spill” that she once took the stage while seriously intoxicated, telling the outlet, “I know exactly the show.” Pearce pointed to a stop on her 29 Tour in Washington, D.C., a few years back, saying, “If you were at my show on the 29 Tour a few years ago in D.C., I over-served myself, and I was like, ‘Uh oh, this is not good.’ But I made it.”

Records show Pearce performed at The Hamilton in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 20, 2021, during that tour. Despite her regret, she noted she has never actually cancelled a concert.

The Kentucky native also took aim at her own discography during the drinking game, singling out “Finish Your Sentences” as the release she wishes had never happened. The track featured her then-husband Michael Ray and appeared on her 2020 self-titled sophomore album. “That didn’t age well,” she quipped.

The pair divorced in June 2020 after just eight months of marriage, a union Pearce has since described as “a very big mistake.” She moved on with Riley King for two years before that relationship ended in 2023. King said at the time that he wished her “nothing but the best in both her career and personal life.”

Pearce’s romantic history surfaced again when she recounted a nightmare date with an unnamed man who drank himself into oblivion. “I once went on a date with a guy who got so blackout drunk that I had to drive him home, and when it was ‘time to kiss me,’ he pretended to have a phone call,” she shared. She caught the ruse immediately: “But I could see his lock screen — where there was no call.”

She fired back at the memory with blunt advice: “Just tell me you don’t want to kiss me. I don’t want to kiss you either.”

The “Every Little Thing” singer is currently promoting her fifth studio album, “Honest Woman,” which dropped Aug. 28. She told ET she considers the project deeply personal, explaining, “I feel like this album is so special to me.” Rather than arena crowds, she is pivoting to intimate venues starting Sept. 10 to forge tighter bonds with her audience.

“They just want to talk to me,” she continued. “And so having that experience to be able to be up close with them is going to be really fun.” She noted that her fan connection has grown so strong it sometimes transcends traditional live settings altogether.
