Everything Lady Gaga Has Said About Parenthood Before Becoming a Mom

Lady Gaga has welcomed her first child with fiancé Michael Polansky.

The “Born This Way” singer, 40, and Polansky, 42, were photographed Thursday on a walk in Northern California with their newborn, the outlet exclusively confirmed Friday. For the family outing, Gaga — born Stefanie Germanotta — kept their baby held close to her chest while the couple, engaged since March 2024, kept things casual. The pair have stayed largely out of the spotlight recently, fueling speculation among friends that they may have already eloped.

The baby news lands after months of increasingly direct hints from the Grammy winner about her desire for motherhood. In November 2025, she said, “Being a mom is the thing I want the most,” She added that Polansky was “gonna be a beautiful father” and that they both were “really excited” about starting a family together.

That interview capped a year of unusually frank public statements. In October 2025, Gaga appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and declared motherhood would be her “next starring role.”

“I would like to do many things,” she said at the time. “All of these things are open. But, what I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role, I hope.”

The Oscar winner’s timeline for family life was apparently set early in the relationship. During a March 2025 “Good Morning America” appearance, she revealed she had asked Polansky about marriage and children on their very first date. She said Polansky responded in the affirmative.

“And I said, ‘OK, great. Do you want some Champagne?’ And he goes, ‘Sure,'” she recounted.

The “Poker Face” singer described herself as “a family girl” who wants “marriage and kids more than anything.”

That same month, in an interview, Gaga said she’s “excited to be a mom,” while admitting she “used to have a lot of apprehension about it.” She emphasized giving future children autonomy, telling the publication, “The thing that’s the most important to me is to not force my children to live a life that they are not choosing.”

She continued, “So the more that we can give them space to discover who they are on their own, that’s the thing that I believe in the most.”

Gaga also acknowledged the tension between her artistic life and impending motherhood. “Like, today is wonderful, but the whole day has revolved around me,” she told the outlet. “There’s an incredible amount of narcissism in this. How do I live a life where I’m passionate about my art while also making more space for other things?”

In comments to Access Hollywood that same March, she gushed, “I really want to be a mom,” adding that motherhood is “the greatest vision” she’s had.

Earlier in 2025, she spoke to Elle about family in characteristically poetic terms. “Family — it’s like the roots of the tree,” the “Bad Romance” songstress said in January. “They grow long, and sometimes they’re mangled, and sometimes they’re full of water, and sometimes they’re thirsty. Family is what makes you who you are, and it also defines your need for change.”

When asked what she’d want future children to understand about her, Gaga said, “I would want my children to understand that whatever my artistry means to them is totally up to them.”

She added that she “would never actually want to shape it or tell them how to think about me.”

“Maybe other than that I just did my best,” she mused. “And tried to stay true to myself along the way.”

Gaga’s thoughts on motherhood stretch back years. In 2020, she told InStyle she was looking forward to being a mom and marveled at the physical experience of pregnancy.

“Isn’t it incredible what we can do? We can hold a human inside and grow it,” she said. “Then it comes out, and it’s our job to keep it alive.”

The “American Horror Story” alum added, “It’s so funny, everyone works out of my house every day. When they come in, I always say, ‘Welcome to the Womb!'”

In a 2019 Allure interview, she reflected on her bond with her own mother, Cynthia Germanotta, and hoped to replicate it.

“I really hope that when I have maybe a little girl one day, or a little boy, and they see Mommy put her makeup on, that they have the same experience that I did,” she gushed. “That’s the greatest gift of all, when you can connect with your parents.”
