Selma Blair Apologizes for Mid-Flight Meltdown That Led to Arrest and Says ‘I Take This Very Seriously’

Selma Blair has spoken out publicly for the first time since her arrest over a violent mid-flight episode.

The “Legally Blonde” actress, 52, posted an Instagram video on Friday breaking two weeks of silence following the October 11 incident aboard a Delta flight. In the clip, she addressed her followers directly while acknowledging legal restrictions on discussing specifics.

“Hi, it’s me. I know I’ve been quiet for a couple weeks, since Oct. 11,” Blair said in the video. “You deserve to hear from me directly, and I’m sorry it’s taken this long.”

The actress explained that attorneys had instructed her to remain silent about the details of that day. “There is a legal matter going on and my lawyers have asked me to not say anything about that day, and I’m listening to them. I take this very seriously,” she continued.

Despite the legal constraints, Blair sought to reassure viewers about her character and intentions. “What I can tell you, though, is very simple and the truest thing I know about myself. Not one day ever have I intended to hurt or frighten anyone a day in my life,” she stated.

Blair became visibly emotional as she offered apologies to those affected by her actions. She expressed regret to people she has “disappointed,” “hurt,” “frightened” and “alarmed.”

“I am so sorry,” she said, her voice cracking near tears.

The actress also took time to thank supporters who reached out during the difficult period. “And to the people that have written or called or sent wishes of love or caring, it has meant everything to me and my son, who is my world — as is Scout, who is also OK,” she added.

Looking ahead, Blair indicated her priorities would center on personal recovery and family. She said she is going to focus on “taking care of [her] health and [her] son” as well as those who support her “all with gratitude and love.”

The October 11 episode occurred aboard a Delta aircraft when Blair allegedly punched and bit flight attendants while attempting to open the plane door mid-flight. The disturbance prompted the FBI to respond, and Blair was arrested and hospitalized following the incident. Reports indicated she had told fellow passengers “I am not great” before the alleged attacks on crew members.

The episode drew renewed attention to a similar 2013 incident in which Blair experienced what was described as a “psychotic blackout” on another Delta flight, leading to her removal from the aircraft.

Blair has been open in the past about her health struggles, including her 2018 multiple sclerosis diagnosis and subsequent treatments.
