Sharon Stone has opened up about her prolonged celibacy and her search for a meaningful relationship.
The “Basic Instinct” star, 68, told Mayim Bialik on Tuesday’s “Breakdown” podcast that she has been celibate “for quite a while now” and is currently in what she calls “the no luck at all phase.” Stone explained that her priorities shifted after becoming an empty nester, and she now wants more than casual intimacy.
“I’m kind of bored with that,” she confessed about purely physical connections. “I’m in the no luck at all phase right now.”
Stone framed this dry spell as a necessary waiting period for something genuine. “I’m at the point where I really only want to be with someone that I care for,” she said. She described her ideal partner as a “companion” rather than “just someone to have sex with.”
The actress expressed confidence in her romantic capabilities despite the long gap. “I’m a really good girlfriend, but I haven’t been a girlfriend in a long time,” she noted. “And I’ve been a girlfriend to bad boyfriends, and I’ve been a girlfriend to good boyfriends.”
Stone summarized her romantic history with a laugh: “I’ve had good luck and bad luck and no luck at all.”
She called her current celibacy “the phase you need to be willing to be in to have the thing that I really want.”
Despite two marriages, Stone acknowledged a lingering sense of incompleteness in her love life. “I have had loves in my life, but I don’t think I’ve had the great love of my life,” she admitted.
Stone was married to producer Michael Greenburg from 1984 to 1990, then to journalist Phil Bronstein from 1998 to 2004. She adopted her eldest son, Roan, now 26, in 2000 with Bronstein. After their split, she adopted Laird, now 21, in 2005 and Quinn, now 20, a year later.
The actress has been publicly single for 22 years since her divorce from Bronstein, though she revealed last summer that she once dated rapper Nelly without offering details.
In June, Stone disclosed the moment that ended her marriage to Bronstein. After doctors found breast tumors and recommended a bilateral mastectomy, she decided to proceed. Her then-husband responded by calling the decision “ridiculous” before walking out of the room.
“That was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me then. It was over,” she recalled. The tumors turned out to be benign and she did not ultimately need the surgery, but the damage was irreversible. “It was just over in the room. You could just tell. It was over. It was just over. He thought I was ridiculous. He thought it was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself.”
Stone emphasized her resolve at the time, noting she was not “f–king around” about her health.
The “Casino” star’s candid discussion on Bialik’s podcast marks her latest reflection on a personal life that has remained largely private despite decades in the spotlight.
