President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai has opened up about how uncomfortable it can be to live with round-the-clock Secret Service protection.
Kai, 18, is the oldest child of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife, former model Vanessa. Since her grandfather returned to the White House in January 2025, she says agents have been with her at all times.
Under federal rules, the president’s immediate family receives mandatory Secret Service protection. Protection for the president and their spouse continues for life, including after leaving office.
For Kai, that security detail is part of everything—nights out, parties, and even dating—situations where having agents close by can make things feel tense and, at times, embarrassing.
Appearing on Logan Paul and Mike Majlak’s Impaulsive podcast, she explained that the agents accompany her virtually everywhere.
During the conversation, Majlak asked whether the agents would intervene if someone at a party was doing something illegal because of their age. Kai said that isn’t how it works.

“They can’t stop anything, their sole purpose is to protect me,” she told the hosts. “If other people are drinking around me and they’re underage or whatever, they can’t stop that person. All they can do is if there’s a threat to me they’ll take me out of it.”
The topic then shifted to dating, with Paul asking how she handles the inevitable presence of agents. Kai said there’s not much she can do to avoid it.
“To be honest with you, it’s really awkward going on a date and they’re like two tables behind you,” she expressed. Despite that, she said she’s tried to adjust her mindset and not fixate on it.
“I’ve had to learn, in the last year, ‘yes they’re following me’ but also focus and pretend like they’re not there.”
Kai also described the early months as especially challenging, saying it was a major shift from the more typical routine she had before.

“It was not easy having someone follow you around all the time, and planning everything. If you’re going out somewhere you have to be like, ‘I’m leaving in 5 minutes.
“If you live a normal life, you just go out your house and leave. You don’t have to plan every single second. But once I was like ‘their only job is to protect me’ and I’m going to focus on me and let them do their job, it made it so much easier.”
Separately, Kai recently drew criticism online after answering an Instagram Q&A about what she’d most like to do for work.
“Playing golf, social media, entertaining, creating my own business, I think that’s my dream job,” she said. Some commenters responded negatively, calling her “out of touch.”
